Last year the last two Australian news media correspondents based in China fled the country in a tense, diplomatic stand off. This week on the show we chat to one of them: China correspondent for the Australian Financial Review, Michael Smith who has just published a great book about his time in China called fittingly “The Last Correspondent: Dispatches from the frontline of Xi's new China”.
It’s a great book offering lots of great insights into how rapidly everyday life is changing in China and how President Xi is looking to reshape the country in his own image this century. Such an honour to have Michael Smith on the show to discuss the book and his time covering China, and even more of an honour when you consider how lucky he was to get out of there a free man.
